Dear Members,
Today marks the anniversary of the tragic 1989 Montreal Massacre at École Polytechnique, where 14 women were murdered simply because they were women. Thirty-six years later, this devastating act remains a painful reminder that misogyny, hatred, and gender-based violence are still deeply rooted in our society. For the families, communities, and survivors forever impacted, this day carries a weight that cannot be forgotten.
As we honour the lives of those women, we must also confront the ways gender-based violence continues to evolve. December 6 is not a day for silence. It is a day for action.
As union members, we know that meaningful change happens when people stand together. Unifor Local 2002 remains committed to advocating for safer workplaces, supporting survivors, and challenging the systems and attitudes that perpetuate inequality. Ending gender-based violence requires each of us to speak out, to educate, and to take a stand – whether in our workplaces, our homes, or our communities.
