On behalf of all Unifor Local 2002 members, I must express our disgust and disappointment with the decision made by Federal Employment Minister Patty Hajdu to invoke Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. By doing so, the government has ordered Air Canada Flight Attendants into binding arbitration with Air Canada and forced them back to work—stripping them of their right to free and fair collective bargaining.

This move is nothing short of an attack on workers’ rights across this country. Every time a government sides with corporations over workers and interferes in the bargaining process, it weakens the ability of unions to fight for fairness, respect, and dignity at the bargaining table.

Our sisters and brothers at CUPE, representing Air Canada Flight Attendants, are simply exercising their fundamental right to withhold their labour in the fight for fair compensation and recognition of the critical work they perform. For the government to step in and silence that fight on behalf of one of Canada’s largest corporations is shameful.

This fight is not just about Air Canada flight attendants — it is about all of us. If the government can trample on their rights today, it can and will happen to any group of workers tomorrow. We must remain united, vigilant, and ready to push back against these attacks on collective bargaining.

Unifor Local 2002 stands in full solidarity with the flight attendants of Air Canada and with all workers whose rights are under threat. Together, we will continue to fight for respect, fairness, and the right to bargain freely without government interference.

In Solidarity,
