Protect Canadian Jobs
Last week, Unifor representatives traveled to Ottawa to meet with MPs and discuss protecting Canadian jobs in the shadow of ongoing U.S. imposed tariffs.
It has been more than a year since the current U.S administration imposed crushing tariffs on many Canadian good and services, making this year’s federal lobby week even more critical. These tariffs have impacted every Canadian industry resulting in the need for greater advocacy from all of us. Even with the government’s reciprocal, dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, Canadian-made goods, services and jobs continue to be at risk.
During the lobby week, I had the opportunity to meet several MPs and federal staff from all sitting parties to raise the issues that matter most to Local 2002 members. I met with Minister of Transportation Steven MacKinnon and with Director of Policy for the Minister of Jobs, Patty Hadju, among others. In our various discussions I emphasized the concern about airport privatization, the growing issues of employer contract flipping, and the urgent need for a living wage for all workers.

These meetings opened doors and helped ensure our priorities as aviation workers are on the table as federal decisions are made. Unifor’s leadership is calling on the federal government to implement three policy pillars to protect workers and increase Canada’s economic resilience.
Please keep the momentum going by signing and sharing the pledge to Protect Canadian Jobs.
Thank you for your continued solidarity and passion. Your actions strengthen our ability to defend good jobs for Local 2002 members and workers across Canada.
In Solidarity,
Tammy Moore
President, Unifor Local 2002
