Clarification on QPP and CPP Deductions

Dear YYC Paladin Members,

We have received several inquiries regarding recent payroll deductions, and we want to clarify the situation for everyone.

KEY POINTS:

  1. QPP Deductions: Please note that no QPP (Quebec Pension Plan) deductions have been collected by Garda.

  2. CPP Deductions: The deductions seen were solely for outstanding CPP (Canada Pension Plan) payments. Garda's payroll system displays both QPP and CPP on the same line, which has caused some confusion among members.

Impact on Future Tax Years: We have verified that the late payment of the CPP will not affect any members in future tax years. Your tax records will remain accurate and unaffected by this issue.

Action Required for Members Financially Impacted: If the CPP deduction from your April 18th pay caused financial harm, such as NSF (Non-Sufficient Funds) charges or missed payments, please take the following steps:

  1. Contact Kelly-Anne: Reach out to Kelly-Anne, your District 266 Chairperson, to report your situation.

  2. Provide Evidence: Submit evidence of the financial hardship (e.g., bank statements showing NSF charges).

Your union leadership is committed to rectifying any financial impacts and will work with you to address these issues promptly.

In Solidarity,

Your Unifor Local 2002 Leadership
District 266
