Dear Unifor Local 2002 Members at Paladin,
On June 3rd, Unifor and your elected leadership team held an emergency membership meeting to hear your concerns regarding the multitude of issues that are still plaguing the Paladin workplace.
There were many issues raised related to poor working conditions, such as members unable to take scheduled breaks or missing breaks altogether, being denied access to drinking water, and significant delays in being allowed to take bathroom breaks – these are basic human rights. Access to water and sanitation are recognized by the United Nations as human rights – fundamental to everyone’s health, dignity and prosperity.
As your Unifor leadership team, we recognize the urgency of addressing these deplorable working conditions immediately. It is imperative that we reinforce our stance on these matters and communicate directly with you – the members.
We have tried repeatedly with Paladin management to resolve these matters through diplomatic means, but regrettably, the employer has not been receptive.
As your Union, we have filed both grievances and health and safety complaints for most of these issues. We are also currently exploring the possibility of an information rally to raise public awareness and support for these inacceptable working conditions that Paladin is clearly ignoring.
A rally like this would be your chance to spread the word to the public; to underscore that your human rights are being denied.
Unifor is exploring the option of taking a human rights-based approach to resolving these matters and demand that all members be treated with dignity and respect and be granted the decency to work in acceptable conditions.
We need to stand strong together in solidarity and show Paladin that we will not tolerate this treatment. Your support and engagement are crucial as we navigate these challenges together.
