PASS Membership Update: CAWU Talks Big, but Is Not Accountable

PASS Membership Update: CAWU Talks Big, but Is Not Accountable

It looks like the CAWU reps could not handle basic questions from PASS workers at YYC. When you are asking people to trust you with their future, accountability should come first.

CAWU has always shown up with big promises and no proof, asking workers to believe them without question. Transparency should be easy if everything is legitimate, but it is hard to be transparent when the answers either do not exist or would expose the truth behind their smoke and mirror campaign.

What did CAWU do when the questions got too real? They shut everyone down.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector

As seen in their own WhatsApp group, CAWU locked it so only a handful of admins could speak. More than 400 workers were silenced while the reps claimed they were just keeping the information “clear and accurate.” That is not accountability. That is control.

Imagine if that was your union leadership. Imagine asking simple, fair questions about your contract, your dues, your union constitution and bylaws, or how decisions are made. Imagine asking to see financial reports or to understand how your leaders are elected. Now imagine being told to stay quiet instead of getting honest answers.

Real Unions Don’t Hide, They Show Up and Answer

At Unifor we know we are not perfect, but we always work to improve things. There have been challenges and times when things have not gone smoothly. But we face those moments head on because that is what accountability looks like.

We are your union. We are at the bargaining table fighting for your rights and for the best possible deal for you and your coworkers. When problems come up, we do not silence members who ask hard questions. We take the hits, and we keep working to make things better together.

That is what it means to be part of a real union. We do not ask you to believe promises without the ability to ask questions. We stand with you, answer your questions honestly, we know we are stronger together.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers in every major area of the economy. The union advocates for all working people and their rights, fights for equality and social justice in Canada and abroad, and strives to create progressive change for a better future.
