The Union recently held high-level discussions with the Company to address several critical issues. At the top of the agenda was the CATSA stress test you are currently undergoing.
The Company has confirmed that the stress test will end at 2359 on May 24, 2025.
During these discussions, the Union made it clear that simply being paid for missed breaks is not acceptable. Access to bathroom breaks and accommodation for medical needs must be respected and is fundamental to a healthy and safe work environment.
While an occasional missed break may occur, experiencing this repeatedly is completely unacceptable. The Union also clearly explained to the Company that any test which requires members to forgo their contractually agreed-to breaks will be considered a failure.
The Company has committed to meeting with the Union before the next CATSA stress test to explore ways to reduce the undue hardship placed on the hardworking members of District 266. They have acknowledged that this situation could have been handled better and have agreed to listen to our ideas and suggestions to make future stress tests less difficult for employees.
In the meantime, please continue to report any missed breaks, or denied access to washrooms, to the Union office. Your reports help ensure accountability and support our efforts to protect your rights.
The Union recognizes that this is a difficult time, and we sincerely appreciate how you continue to go above and beyond in supporting one another.
Please remember, if you are feeling overwhelmed or need someone to talk to, you have access to free and confidential support through EFAP (Employee and Family Assistance Program) at 1-800-663-1142. And of course, you can always reach out to any Union representative if you require assistance or support.
