Paladin Members: Workplace Update for May 31st, 2024

May 31, 2024 at 3:12 PM

We are aware there is a serious concern regarding delayed and missed breaks happening at YYC International Airport right now and Unifor is taking a strong stance on this matter. This issue is affecting Screening Officers across all start times, every day of the week.

The increase in frequency and number of missed and late breaks is unacceptable and raises concern about the compromised well-being of Screening Officers. We understand that breaks are crucial for safety and effectively performing screening functions, which allows the operation of the checkpoint to run smoothly.

We have made repeated efforts to address the CBA violations of providing scheduled breaks and the offensive working conditions on the floor with both local and regional Paladin management. They continue to consistently fail to provide breaks promptly, if at all, and they have a disappointing lack of resolve toward finding a solution to our concerns.

Breaks are necessary for safety, nutrition, and rest, in turn creating a healthy, respectful workplace atmosphere. Being instructed, by management, to sign for a break is no substitute for actually getting one.

We are tirelessly working to find ways to enact change from Paladin management. We are holding an emergency membership meeting on Monday, June 3.  to provide a platform for you to raise all your concerns and expect Paladin to immediately address and resolve this issue.
