Strike imminent at Perimeter Aviation as Flight Attendants reject offer

October 13, 2021 at 10:00 AM

On October 12, 2021, Unifor conducted three Zoom meetings with the Perimeter membership in order to explain the Employer’s conditional offer that was presented to the Union. The contents of the Employer’s "offer" constitutes the components that would form the next collective bargaining agreement.

At the end of each meeting a confidential vote was held where the Perimeter Aviation Flight Attendants voted on one of the following options:

  1. YES – I accept the Employer's conditional offer
  2. NO – I do not accept this offer and authorize the Union to strike

The result of the vote is as follows:

61% of the membership participated in yesterday's poll, with 93% voting NO to reject Employer's offer.

Strike notice has been served to Perimeter Aviation as well as the Ministry of Labour, with a strike deadline of 0459 on Saturday October 16, 2021. This means that strike action will begin at 0500 on Saturday, October 16, 2021. This provides the Employer with 72-hours' notice to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair and equitable deal for our membership. If they fail to do so, then a labour disruption will occur.

"This was a difficult and drawn-out set of negotiations," said Tammy Moore, Unifor Local 2002 President. "This Employer claims to promote and foster growth and development for it’s employees, but has failed to step up with a fair and reasonable contract. Your Bargaining Committee listened to the membership who have opted to strike and we fully support their decision."

It is imperative that as we begin strike preparation for October 16, that members watch their emails and keep in touch with local leadership. Information with regards to picketing duties and schedules, as well as any and all information pertaining to the strike will be forwarded over the coming days.

Your Bargaining Committee would like to thank the membership for their support and solidarity through what has been an uncertain set of negotiations.

In solidarity,

Your Unifor Bargaining Committee
Sarah Schmidt, Bargaining Committee Representative
Sharon Lavallee, Bargaining Committee Representative
Denise Cochrane, Assistant to the Local President
Tammy Moore, Unifor 2002 President
Carmen Ledarney, Unifor National Representative
