SkyLink Express Members: Update on CCAA proceedings

SkyLink Express Members: Update on CCAA proceedings

June 7, 2024 at 3:30 PM

Unifor has been made aware that late Friday evening, SkyLink Express – as a result of the on-going CCAA proceedings – issued termination letters to a number of Unifor members.

SkyLink Express Inc. was granted protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (also known as CCAA). Under this arrangement, the employer had advised the union that all parties would be informed and notified of important events and/or particulars in order to best serve the membership. Further, Unifor was advised by the employer that working conditions and benefits will remain status quo.

The Union was not provided any advance notice that these terminations would be taking place. The terminations were issued in the evening on Friday, taking effect the same day.

The employer’s conduct in this matter is unequivocally shameful. SkyLink’s blatant disregard for these members and their families is unacceptable and the terminations were carried out with no advance notice.

It is the Union’s position that these terminations are in violation of the Unifor/SkyLink collective agreement. As such, Unifor will be filing both a policy and group grievance against these egregious actions.

The Union will not stand by while SkyLink Express blatantly disregards the hard-fought rights that FCMs are entitled to under the collective agreement.

Unifor and our legal team have been engaged and participating where required in the ongoing CCAA proceedings and will continue to do so.
