The Unifor Legal team has been placing pressure on the employer for a response on when the payment of the accumulated interest (Award of July 2018) will be paid. As you may recall we had previously communicated that all interest had ceased to accumulate as of October 2018. The arbitrator, the lawyers representing the three Teamsters Local’s and our lawyers have been continuously pushing the employer for
their position.
If the Company does not respond promptly, the Union lawyers will ask the arbitrator for a hearing on this matter.
Also, as you recall Arbitrator Martin issued his award on July 22, 2018, and determined that his decision only covered Unifor, Teamsters 931, and 1999. However, in the expert report that arbitrator Martin referred to in his award, the numbers encompassed the 4 Locals. After considerations and to accelerate the process, Unifor decided to move forward and accept to share the amount determined in the expert report with all the Locals since the expert established the amount for the 4 Locals i.e., Teamsters 1999,931,419 and Unifor.
