Unifor Local 2002 is inviting applications from Swissport Toronto District 318 members for the position of Employee Advocate, as outlined in Letter of Understanding (LOU) No. 10 of the Collective Agreement.
As defined in Letter of Understanding No. 10 – Collective Agreement: Employee Advocate Role
Overview of the Employee Advocate Position.

LOU No. 10 was established to support employees who may be experiencing violence or abuse—including those who may prefer to speak with a peer rather than approach management. The Advocate will serve as a point of contact to listen, guide, and direct individuals to appropriate resources such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or specialized support organizations. This is a confidential role, requiring empathy, trust, and professionalism.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Meet confidentially with employees who come forward with concerns related to violence or abuse.
  • Provide guidance and **refer employees** to the EAP or to another appropriate support agency.
  • Coordinate with a designated company manager who will serve as a support contact.
  • If meetings occur during scheduled working hours, prior approval from both the Advocate’s and the employee’s supervisors is required.
  • Report workplace violence, harassment, or bullying to management when identified or disclosed.
Key Position Details:
  • This is an unpaid position; however, all required training will be provided and paid for by the Union.
  • The Advocate must participate in an initial 40-hour training program, with up to three additional days of training annually.
  • The Company will grant leave for training sessions, provided 30 days’ written notice is given.
  • Whenever possible, the Advocate should schedule meetings outside of work hours; lost time compensation during paid hours will be covered by the Union before preapproval.
  • The Company will make reasonable efforts to provide access to a private meeting space for sessions, where confidentiality can be assured.
  • The Union and Company will jointly ensure **employee awareness** of the position and how to contact the Advocate.
