Swissport Toronto Members: Unifor Files for Conciliation

March 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM

Unifor Local 2002 filed for conciliation with Swissport Toronto on March 3, 2023. After exchanging bargaining proposals on March 2nd, it was evident we were facing some significant challenges in this round of negotiations. The Company’s theme was concessionary bargaining, with a cutting-back attitude towards non-monetary proposals.

Coming out of the pandemic our members were the face of Swissport’s recovery. We, the frontline workers were challenged daily by passengers disrupted by partner service failures. Our expertise and experience are what pulled this company through the massive wave of service failures. We demand respect. We demand fair wages. Swissport needs to come to the table with a promise of a future, not concessions.

WHAT IS THE CONCILICATION PROCESS?
  • Unifor files a Notice of Dispute to the Federal Minister of Labour
  • Minister will appoint a Federal Conciliation Officer within 15 days
  • The Conciliator will meet with Union and Employer over 60 days to facilitate negotiations
  • The parties may agree to extend the conciliation period if negotiations are progressing
  • At the end of this period, the parties enter a 21-day "cooling off period"
  • Conciliator files report to the Federal Minister of Labour

Fairness and respect. Together we will make the gains that members have made clear they want their collective agreement to reflect. Make sure that you have subscribed to Unifor 2002's e-news service.
