ASP arbitration in final stages
ASP arbitration in final stages
April 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM
The final two days of arbitration to renew the ASP collective agreement were held on April 6 and 7, 2013 in Toronto in front of arbitrator Brian Kellar. In order to bring this lengthy process to a close, Kellar has committed to release the award as soon as possible.
The CAW prepared an extensive written brief to the arbitrator to support the argument that security guards at airports and other workplaces are higher paid; ASP has not provided wage increases to the existing wage scale since 2007.
ASP argued that under the current contract with the GTAA it was losing money and that it could not afford wage increases. They also stated that if they had to pay higher wages, ASP was at risk of losing its renewal bid with the GTAA.
Important issues such as scheduling, overtime, seniority and sick days, were also discussed thoroughly and left to the arbitrator to resolve. The union is currently waiting for the full award for all of these issues from arbitrator Kellor, which will be final and binding.
The union would like to thank the membership of ASP for their ongoing patience and support in this long and arduous process. The CAW will continue to provide updates on this matter and will release the entire award once it is finalized.
