Air Canada: Part Time GIDIP Premiums Arbitration Update

Air Canada: Part Time GIDIP Premiums Arbitration Update

May 31, 2024 at 9:05 AM

The Air Canada Bargaining Committee has successfully arbitrated a policy grievance regarding GIDIP (Group Insurance Disability Income Plan) premium deductions for part-time members.

Here are the key points from the arbitration decision:

Twenty-hour GIDIP Premiums for Part-Time Members

  • Effective from the pay period starting June 9, 2024, GIDIP premium deductions for part-time members will be deducted at 20 hours per week. Regardless of the number of hours worked

  • This change aligns the GIDIP premium deductions for part-time members with those of full-time members, ensuring consistency and fairness across the membership

No Change for Full-Time Members

  • There will be no changes in the calculation of GIDIP premiums for full-time members. They continue to be deducted at 40 hours per week

Net Zero Pay Periods Due to Shift Trades

  • If any member (full-time or part-time) experiences a net zero pay period due to shift trades, the company will advance the GIDIP premiums to Canadian Benefits

  • The amounts advanced by Air Canada will be deducted from the member's first pay period with sufficient funds

  • This policy does not apply to any Leave of Absences (LOA)

Pre-Payment of GIDIP Premiums During LOA

  • Members on any form of LOA, such as Maternity Leave, Critical Care Leave, etc., must continue to pre-pay their GIDIP premiums directly with Canadian Benefits

  • It is important to ensure GIDIP premiums are maintained during periods of LOA to avoid any lapses in coverage
