Since the Unifor Jazz and Air Canada Bargaining Committees have finalized the master transition agreement on the Small Bases with the respective employers on March 31, 2023, Québec City, Moncton, and Charlottetown bases have met the criteria of the arbitration award to switch its operation to Air Canada bases.
Shortly, Thunder Bay will cross the threshold to qualify and become an Air Canada operated base. We are currently in discussion and working on a date that the transition will be competed. Therefore, all Unifor members employed by Air Canada that were displaced when the previous decision was made to change this location to a Jazz base will be given the option to return to Thunder Bay in the coming months. All Unifor members currently working for Jazz in Thunder Bay will be given the opportunity to continue to work in Thunder Bay as Air Canada employees.
Meetings will be scheduled in the near future with both Jazz and Air Canada members to address the base transition. Bargaining Committee members from both units will also be attendance. These meetings will offer an opportunity to address questions and advise members on their available options. We realize that these changes will generate a lot of questions and we will work to make the changeover as smooth as possible.
As soon as Air Canada confirms the official transition date, we will share further details about the meetings with the membership.
In solidarity,
The Unifor Jazz and Air Canada Bargaining Committees
