AGI Toronto Pearson Airport Update – May 8th, 2026

May 8, 2026 at 7:27 PM

After several attempts to schedule meetings with AGI management regarding their exit plan from Toronto Pearson Airport, we have received the following updates from the Company.

1. Severance Pay & Canada Labour Code (CLC)
  • The Company has stated they are not interested in negotiating for severance packages beyond the minimum requirements of the Canada Labour Code (CLC).
Eligibility:
  • Employees must have completed at least 12 consecutive months of continuous employment.
Calculation: Severance pay is the greater of:
  • Two (2) days' wages (at the regular rate) for each full year of service, OR
  • Five (5) days' wages at the regular rate.
2. Contract Extensions & Revised Termination Dates
  • Updated termination (layoff) letters will be issued to reflect the following contract extensions:
  • United Airlines (UAL): Last day of work is July 15, 2026.
  • Copa Airlines: Last day of work is June 29, 2026.
  • All Other Contracts: Termination effective May 31, 2026.
3. Severance Option & Recall Rights
  • We have requested that members be given the option to receive their CLC severance immediately following their last day worked.
  • Note: Any member accepting this immediate severance will have their name removed from the recall list (per CBA Article 10.04.01.04). Recall rights otherwise remain for three (3) years or the length of service, whichever is greater.
4. Payroll Audits & Premium Pay
  • The Company is conducting audits to rectify the following payment discrepancies:
  • Brake Riding Premium: Owed to eligible employees dating back to October 2025. Per CBA Article 5.05, the premium is $2.50 per occurrence.
  • Sick Leave Pay: Auditing missed wages for sick calls since January 2026.
  • Vacation Pay: Auditing incorrect payments for vacation time taken since January 2026.

IMPORTANT: ACTION REQUIRED
To expedite the audit process, if you are owed money for Brake Riding, Sick Leave, or Vacation, please provide HR AGI YYZ with specific dates and times as soon as possible.

New Employment:
If you have found or are seeking new employment, please notify HR immediately. This information is vital as Unifor explores legal channels regarding successor rights with new employers who are hiring AGI staff for the contracts AGI is vacating.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
