Canadian North AME’s: Bargaining for a New Wage Scale

Canadian North AME’s: Bargaining for a New Wage Scale

November 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM

On September 14, 2018, the Bargaining Committee and the Company held a joint System Union Management meeting in Edmonton to discuss issues that are affecting the membership at Canadian North.

One of the main issues the Union recognized, was the shortage of staffing and attrition rates. The Company has been hiring contract workers to fill the staffing shortages, which the Union pointed out to the Company that this is a direct violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Discussions were productive, as it led both parties to agree to bargain a new wage scale in the collective agreement, which would be in place for a 12-month period. The current collective agreement expires on January 31st, 2019.

Following the meeting in September, the Bargaining Committee met with the Company on November 12th, 2018. At this meeting, the Bargaining Committee put forth a wage scale proposal, which would eliminate the current issues surrounding retention, attrition and contract employees. The Company has agreed to review the wage proposals put forward by the Bargaining Committee.  Negotiations will resume in the next few weeks.
