Unifor reaches Memorandum of Settlement with Canadian North AME

August 1, 2019 at 10:00 AM

Unifor 2002 is pleased to announce that it has reached a Memorandum of Settlement (MOS) for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME) at Canadian North. The agreement was reached on Wednesday, July 31st for the approximate 90 Unifor members who work in Edmonton, Calgary, Yellowknife, and Iqaluit.

The MOS – which is subject to ratification by the membership – relates to wage increases for the period effective February 1, 2019 (previous Collective Agreement expiration) to the amended expiration of January 31, 2020.

BACKGROUND

Unifor first met with Canadian North in November, 2018 to begin negotiating a MOS. After several hours, it was clear that the Company was unable to conclude a settlement as the Company needed to finalize matters concerning the First Air merger. As a result, Unifor held proposal meetings in March, 2019 at all four of the bases to review details with the membership. The bargaining committee developed proposals for a new Collective Agreement and after more recent discussions, Unifor and Canadian North agreed to enter in to bargaining for the purpose of dealing with a one-year wage increase (February 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020).

TELECONFERENCE RATIFICATION MEETINGS

As stated above, the Memorandum of Settlement is subject to a ratification vote by the membership. Ratification meetings will be held via teleconference on Friday, August 9th as follows:
