Below is a link to Arbitrator Tom Hodges' award pertaining to the Supervisor and Specialist Job rating grievances. This document was released yesterday to Unifor (hereinafter referred to as the "union") and the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (hereinafter referred to as the "employer").
The summary of the award states that the decision of the Arbitrator is to permit the Supervisor's grievance, resulting in the elevation of the Supervisor to a band 8.
Additionally, the Arbitrator has also indicated that the compensation will be paid back to the October 17, 2023 pay period. This provides a retroactive payment to the incumbent Supervisors.
With respect to the specialist grievance the arbitrator has instructed the parties to enter into settlement discussion. The Arbitrator has emphasized that the award of the supervisor grievance should serve as a catalyst for the parties to resolve the dispute. If the parties fail to reach a settlement agreement within 90 days, the Arbitrator will proceed with the outcome of the dispute.
The union is now in a position to engage the employer in resolving the grievance regarding the job rating of specialists, as stipulated by the Arbitrator. The union's position is that the award provides a clear path for us to resolve and recognize our specialists. We are looking forward to constructive discussions with the employer on this matter.
