BILLY BISHOP TORONTO CITY AIRPORT UPDATE
On Friday January 27th your bargaining committee, along with Unifor National Representative Liz Marzari, Unifor local 2002 President Cheryl Robinson, Assistant to the President Josee Genois, and Jazz Vice President Christine Bower met with Arbitrator Tom Hodges and Jazz officials to mediate/arbitrate grievance P618-10-16 concerning work at Toronto’s Billy Bishop City Airport.
Arbitrator Tom Hodges issued an award and found that the transfer of 5 Q400 aircraft from Sky Regional Airlines to Jazz Aviation met all requirements under section 189 of the Canada Labour Code. As such, all current Sky Regional employees have been transferred to Jazz Aviation and will now fall under the Unifor-Jazz collective bargaining agreement. Mr. Hodges’ award also notes that he does not have jurisdiction to hear the case for the ‘below-the-wing’ work. All specific details related to the application of section 189 – and how it applies in conjunction with the Jazz collective agreement – will be negotiated between Unifor and Jazz in the coming weeks. As further information becomes available relating to this award and the transfer of work to Jazz, it will be communicated via e-news and the Unifor 2002 website (unifor2002.org).
BARGAINING UPDATE
The Unifor bargaining committee will be meeting with Jazz officials in Toronto on Thursday February 2nd to formally open negotiations. At this meeting we anticipate to schedule additional bargaining dates.
