Jazz Customer & Aircraft Service Members: Update on Newfoundland and Labrador base closure

Jazz Customer & Aircraft Service Members: Update on Newfoundland and Labrador base closure

July 10, 2025 at 7:00 PM

We want to update you on the ongoing dispute with Jazz Aviation LP regarding the base closure in Newfoundland which Unifor has filed grievances on.

On November 21, 2024, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) dismissed the Section 65 referral under Arbitrator Hodges’ award from June 25, 2024. This decision means the CIRB has sent the matter back to the arbitrator, confirming that the grievances will move forward.

The file has since been assigned to Arbitrator Mark Wright. Earlier today – July 10, 2025 – your Bargaining Committee met with Arbitrator Wright and Jazz management in Toronto for an arbitration hearing. We spent the day addressing the complex issues involved, and discussions will continue at the next scheduled hearing.

Unfortunately, due to Arbitrator Wright’s limited availability, our next date is not scheduled until March 24, 2026.

We know the timeline is frustrating, and we truly appreciate your continued patience and support. As always, we will keep you updated with any new developments.

In Solidarity,

Your Unifor Bargaining Committee
Lucie Lapierre, Eastern Region – Chairperson
Astraea Sam, Western Region
Adrian Schilke, Pacific Region
Annette Boissonneault, Central Region
John Phalen, Atlantic Region
Doug Balson, Aircraft Services
Josée Genois, Assistant to the Local President
