Jazz Customer & Aircraft Services: Update – Jazz Layoffs in the Atlantic Bases

Jazz Customer & Aircraft Services: Update – Jazz Layoffs in the Atlantic Bases

October 11, 2023 at 6:30 PM

As communicated previously, Unifor has filed four grievances in response to Jazz's announcement that it intendeds to lay off more than 50 members as the Company makes changes to its services.

The Union received the Company’s response to the filing on September 27th. Regrettably, the grievances were denied. On October 5th, Unifor conducted two virtual meetings with our members in Goose Bay (YYR) and Gander (YQX) to discuss the grievance process and next steps going forward.

SPECIAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE

The Union approached the Company on October 6th to discuss the possibility of offering members a Special Leave of Absence (SLOA). The meeting concluded and the Company was to respond back to us tomorrow - October 12th with a response. Unexpectedly, we heard today that the Company has already communicated directly with employees in YYR and YXQ and advised that a SLOA will not be offered.

NEXT STEPS

As per the Unifor collective bargaining agreement, and following the step 2 response, the Union had 20 working days to serve notice of its intent to submit the grievance to arbitration which we did today.

More information will be communicated as this issue develops.
