Dear Local 2002 Jazz Maintenance members,
As we reported earlier, Unifor has officially put Jazz on notice on September 3, 2024, with our desire to begin bargaining. We are happy to report that Jazz has agreed to begin negotiations.
To prepare for the upcoming negotiations, we will begin the process of gathering information from you to gauge the key elements of interest for this round of bargaining.
We are taking the feedback we received during the last ratification tour and made the decision to conduct a referendum on whether the membership has a desire to merge the bargaining units of Jazz Line and JTS back together under one bargaining certificate.
The referendum will go out next week to members.
As you know, this was part of the last failed memorandum, and we heard from you that this was not necessarily the direction that the membership wanted the bargaining committee to take.
To be certain that we are following the wishes of our membership, we will have a vote by all members to get a clear direction.
Some of the reasons why merging the two units back together would benefit both the Jazz Line and JTS units are:
- Eliminate the pre and post DOR discrepancy on transferring with seniority rights
- Mobility from base-to-base
- Taking the capability of the company away from pitting one unit against the other and strength in one solid unit
We believe it would strengthen our position to have JTS and Jazz Line reunified as one bargaining unit, especially if the Union was in a legal strike position.
We want to emphasize that the needs of members are first and foremost the compass we’re using to steer this ship. Our union stands behind you and will continue to fight in your corner.
As always, we’ll keep you posted on any new information. Feel free in the meantime to reach out to your union workplace representatives if you have questions. You could also contact your vice-president or bargaining chairs directly:
