Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Comrads,
The Unifor National Union has advised that the GTAA (Greater Toronto Airport Authority) bargaining unit has officially been granted autonomy under its own local union charter and will now operate independently as Unifor Local 2333.
This is not a decision that was taken lightly by the National Union, Unifor Local 2002, or the GTAA bargaining unit. Over many years, as part of Local 2002, members of the GTAA unit have expressed a desire for greater autonomy and the ability to govern within their own local union structure. With a membership of more than 1,400 workers and continued growth within the unit, the National Union believes that the rights, representation, and overall well-being of both Unifor Local 2002 and the newly chartered Local 2333 will be best served by operating independently, while continuing to receive the appropriate support and assistance from the National Union.
This transition is not rooted in conflict or division, rather, it is an amicable opportunity for both locals to move forward in a way that allows each organization to focus on the unique needs of their respective memberships and continue to grow and flourish.
Unifor Local 2002 remains committed to representing our members with strength, professionalism, and solidarity, and we wish the members and leadership of Local 2333 success as they begin this new chapter.
In Solidarity,
Tammy Moore
President
Unifor Local 2002
