A message from the Aboriginal Workers of Colour (AWOC) Standing Committee
Solidarity Together - We stand in solidarity!

Today, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the recent murders of George Floyd in Minnesota, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, Breonna Taylor in Kentucky, and the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet in Toronto, Ontario. We are deeply saddened seeing these acts take place in this day and Age. The pain, fear, and frustration being felt worldwide is profound.

Racism has no place in our Society. The AWOC Committee and our Allies are doing our part to eradicate forms of racism and bigotry that occur locally. There is no reason that Black People in Canada should die at the hands of our Police Services. Yet the deaths of Black Canadians, Abdirahman Abdi, Bony Jean-Pierre, D’Andre Campbell and most recently under investigation, Regis Korchiski-Paquet, demonstrate that Anti-Black Racism continues to be a leading cause for the Loss of Black Lives. We will not tolerate racism, discrimination, or harassment. We encourage you to stand up and have your voice heard for change.

We are committed to raising Awareness to Combat Anti-Black Racism, including advocating to ensure Accountability, working towards inclusion, belonging and building a better Future.

In Solidarity,
