Recognizing the Dedication of Our Unifor Local 2002 Membership

Dear Local 2002 Members,

I want to take a moment to recognize the extraordinary efforts of our members in response to the Delta Airlines crash in Toronto on Monday. Despite the challenges of severe snowstorms and resulting delays, our members displayed professionalism and dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.

Our members at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) were among the first responders on-site, coordinating critical operations. They provided essential bus transportation to safely move passengers from the crash site to the terminal, assisted passengers upon arrival, and managed the situation behind the scenes. Their swift actions and expertise were vital to the rescue effort, underscoring their critical role in maintaining the airport's functionality in times of crisis.

Our members at Ornge played a crucial role in attending to injured passengers, ensuring they received prompt medical attention and safe transport to the hospital. Their dedication to care during such a high-pressure event exemplifies their professionalism.

The Delta crash, compounded by severe weather, created a chaotic situation across Canadian airports. Our members across all bargaining units stepped up, managing frustrated and tired passengers while maintaining operational continuity. Their experience and resilience were instrumental in keeping aviation running during these difficult circumstances.

I am incredibly proud of the contributions of all Local 2002 members, as all Canadian’s are. Your hard work and dedication continue to demonstrate the critical role you play in Canada’s aviation sector.
