Nasittuq District 381 has ratified a new collective agreement

Unifor 2002 is pleased to announce that 74 per cent of the members of Nasittuq Corp. located in Alert, Nunavut, have ratified a new Collective Bargaining Agreement by 65 per cent.
 
The members have agreed to a four-year deal bringing them wage increases in each year of the agreement.
 
Other improvements include: 
  • Increase to paramedicals
  • Increase to the number of sick days
  • Detailed progressive language regarding discrimination, harassment/bullying and violence
  • Increase to Personal Protective Equipment
  • A more expedient grievance process/Expedited Arbitration Process
  • Enhanced discipline process
  • Jointly developed shift-scheduling procedure
  • Increase to vacation pay as of the start of the 10th year of service
  • Improved bereavement leave
  • Increase to recall rights
  • Lump-sum payment in lieu of required notice of resignation etc.

The hard work, dedication and solidarity of the bargaining committee, national staff representative and the assistant to the local president are the keys to bargaining gains for our members. Thank you.”
 
The term of the agreement is valid from May 31, 2017 to May 31, 2021.
 
Members in this bargaining unit supply a complete range of support services to the Department of National Defence including facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services and transport, logistical and administrative support at CFS Alert, a military station located in Nunavut, approximately 817 km from the North Pole.
