Last week, many members expressed concerns regarding workload, staffing levels, operational pressures, and the assignment of SSR work. The company's initial communication on May 29 did not address those concerns in a manner that the Union believed was constructive, and we were disappointed that District 362 leadership was not consulted prior to that message being distributed.
Since that time, the company has acknowledged those concerns, issued a follow-up communication to employees, and reached out to the Union to begin discussions regarding possible solutions. We appreciate the company's willingness to take ownership of the situation and engage directly with the Union.
A meeting between District 362 leadership and management has been scheduled for tomorrow, June 2, where we will discuss the concerns raised by members and explore potential solutions moving forward.
The Union remains firm in its position that SSR work is important bargaining unit work that belongs to our members. Protecting our work, maintaining adequate staffing levels, and ensuring our members have the resources necessary to perform their duties safely and effectively will continue to be key priorities for District 362. These issues will also remain important considerations as we prepare for the next round of collective bargaining.
In the meantime, we encourage all members to continue performing their duties safely and professionally. Take one flight at a time. Take one SSR at a time. Take your scheduled breaks. Follow established procedures and safety practices. Do not place yourself in a position where you could be injured because you are working alone or because staffing levels are insufficient. Safety must always remain the priority.
We appreciate the professionalism of our members and their continued commitment to safety, customer service, and operational excellence.
In Solidarity,
