Swissport Toronto: Unifor files for Conciliation on May 28, 2018

Swissport (Toronto) Bargaining Committee filed for conciliation May 28, 2018. Progress had been made on the non-monetary bargaining items, unfortunately, we reached an impasse on the monetary proposals. Swissport's response to the union’s monetary proposals today was completely insulting. They seem to think that the Passenger Service Agents should pay for all the problems on the ramp, and the management failures. They are refusing to provide wage increases for members working at Toronto Pearson International Airport despite the constant increase in the cost of living.

Our Bargaining Committee has walked out of the negotiations and we have filed for conciliation.

Conciliation Process

  • Unifor files a Notice of Dispute to the Federal Minister of Labour

  • Minister will appoint a Federal Conciliation Officer within 15 days

  • The Conciliator will meet with Union and Employer over a 60-day period to facilitate negotiations

  • The parties may agree to extend the conciliation period if negotiations are progressing

  • At the end of this period, the parties enter a 21 day "cooling off period"

  • Conciliator files report to the Federal Minister of Labour

The Bargaining Committee is focused and determined to bargain a collective agreement that provides gains for our members. Members have made it clear that they want their collective agreement to reflect fairness and respect.

Our fight is your fight, and we will continue to fight for equality as we build a stronger more relevant Union. Please ensure that you have subscribed to Unifor 2002's e-news service.
