Unifor 2002 is accepting applications for the position of Women’s Advocate. This position is a negotiated position in the collective agreement between Unifor Local 2002 and Swissport.

The role of the advocate is to listen and provide support, offer information and appropriate resources, follow up in a confidential manner. Individuals interested in applying for the Swissport Montreal Women’s Advocate position should send a resume outlining their particular experience and reasons for applying for the position no later than July 8, 2019 at 12:00 EST.

The term of office will be effective August 1, 2019. The successful applicant will be required to attend an initial 40-hour basic training session.

LETTER OF AGREEMENT NO. 10 – WOMEN’S ADVOCATE

As part of their regular activities, the Union and the Employer shall implement a program aimed at offering awareness-raising and information activities on health and wellbeing. More specifically, they shall develop an information program focusing on psychological and physical violence against women and they shall designate a female member to act as a Women’s Advocate. In the event that the person designated to fulfil this role requires special training, the Employer shall grant her release time for this purpose.

The Women’s Advocate shall be designated by mutual agreement between the Employer and the Union from among the female members of the Swissport bargaining unit of Unifor Local 2002, based on the candidates’ qualifications, experience and aptitudes.

The Company agrees to provide the Women’s Advocate with paid release time, while taking into account operational needs, as required in order to address issues that arise. The meeting and its duration shall be approved by the Company in advance of the intervention. It is agreed that the Company will not pay any overtime if the Women’s Advocate has already been released full-time with pay by the Company.

The role of the Women’s Advocate will be to listen to and support female members facing a situation of abuse, violence or harassment, whether at home or in the workplace, and/or to refer them to the appropriate resources.

While protecting the anonymity of employees, the Women’s Advocate shall present a report to the Employer and the Union in order to allow for the appropriate adjustments to be made to the awareness-raising and information activities offered to women.

If a female employee in need of assistance requests an emergency meeting with the Women’s Advocate, the Employer shall do its best to release her from her duties, without loss of pay, and provide her with an office in order to ensure the confidentiality of the meeting. The meeting and its duration must be approved by the Employer in advance of the intervention. Men who are experiencing domestic violence may also request assistance from the Women’s Advocate.

The Women’s Advocate’s duties shall include preparing communications on behalf of the Employer and the Union aimed at informing employees about the role of the Women’s Advocate.
