Aeroplan Members: Bargaining Meetings Update for October 10, 2024

October 10, 2024 at 8:53 AM

We recently held bargaining meetings in Vancouver and Montreal in person and via Zoom. Thank you to everyone who participated. Meetings have been scheduled for early December to continue discussions with the Employer. We will keep you informed as we strive to secure a favourable agreement for our membership. If we encounter challenges, we will arrange further meetings to prepare for the next steps. Please remember to refrain from using company email or other Employer platforms to discuss bargaining or union-related matters.

UMHQ Meeting
Last week, we convened for our quarterly UMHQ meeting in Toronto, attended by District Chairs, Bargaining Representatives, and National Representatives. This forum allows us to address unresolved issues and discuss impending changes.

During this meeting, we strongly opposed the company’s punitive approach to attendance management. We emphasized that bypassing progressive discipline is unethical and generally disapproved by Arbitrators. The union remains committed to grieving instances of excessive discipline and has raised concerns regarding the mismanagement of L11 and the use of AI by the company. Additionally, we identified ongoing issues with faulty phone lines and systems. With these significant challenges ahead, we urge all agents to remain vigilant and ensure they do not exceed their sick and family responsibility allotments.

Work-from-Home Opportunities
Due to limited hiring in October, work-from-home opportunities will not be available this fall, as we have reached maximum capacity for remote work. We will keep you updated on any future openings or changes to this policy.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Attendance Management Concerns
The company’s punitive approach to KPIs and attendance management continues to raise concerns, as it often overlooks the importance of relationship-building, support, and coaching. If you encounter any unusual situations or believe disciplinary actions are unfair or excessive, please contact your District Chairpersons. We are here to ensure fairness and support for all members.

Outstanding Grievances
Currently, there are four outstanding policy grievances awaiting responses from the Employer, in addition to numerous individual grievances from both offices. We will keep you informed on these matters.   Thank you for your continued support and commitment as we navigate these important issues together.
