Unifor Local 2002 is seeking a volunteer from our workplace to join the pay equity committee.
This is a crucial role in which you will represent our bargaining unit members on company/union pay equity matters.
What is Pay Equity?
Pay equity, also known as equal pay for work of equal value, is a fundamental human right.
It ensures that employees in different jobs that contribute equal value to an employer's operations receive equal pay. For example, it might involve comparing the value of traditionally male-dominated roles (like a truck mechanic) to traditionally female-dominated roles (like an accounting technician).
Committee Member Responsibilities
As a pay equity committee member, you will:
- Identify job classes and determine their gender predominance
- Establish the value of work and compensation for each job class
- Compare compensation between predominantly male and female job classes
- Calculating any necessary compensation increases to establish and maintain pay equity.
Important: You do not need in-depth knowledge to join this committee. Representatives from Unifor's national office will provide aid and guidance.
