The
Unifor–Ornge is a newly negotiated position in the collective agreement between Unifor Local 2002 and Ornge. Unifor Local 2002 is accepting applications for one Racial Justice Advocate.
ROLE OF THE RACIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATE
The role of the Racial Justice Advocate involves actively working towards achieving racial equity, challenging systemic racism, and advocating for the rights and fair treatment of marginalized racial and ethnic groups. They also educate Unifor members about the impact of racism and work toward systematic change. The Advocate will collaborate with union members and activists to identify their needs and concerns and work together to develop strategies for change.

In recognition of societal racism, the Company agrees to identify one racial justice advocate. A Racial Justice Advocate will be an individual who identifies as a Black, Indigenous or racialized community member. The Local Union President will select the facility’s Racial Justice Advocate. A Racial Justice Advocate is a workplace representative who will assist and provide support for Black, Indigenous, and racialized people and concerns such as racial discrimination and racial violence.

RACIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATE
• Providing a listening ear and support for members facing racial discrimination or violence
• Assisting with racial justice initiatives
• Promoting access to culturally appropriate community services
• Collaborating with leadership on developing and implementing an anti-racism action plan
• Networking with allied organizations and local community partners
• The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training, including:
• An initial 40-hour basic training program
• Annual three-day update training sessions
• Ornge has agreed to cover all associated costs, including lost time, travel expenses, and training fees.
