Unifor has finally received the company's first available dates to begin negotiations. We are disappointed that Paladin management cannot convene until May 2025, however, your Unifor bargaining committee remains fully prepared and continues to push for earlier meeting dates.
In the meantime, your bargaining committee has additional meetings scheduled to thoroughly review the proposals submitted by the membership which will be used to prioritize key issues at the negotiating table. We will be ready well before May 2025 and have no interest in prolonging these negotiations unnecessarily.
"Unifor continues to support Paladin members as they pursue a fair deal through the collective bargaining process," said Unifor Local 2002 President Tammy Moore. "Your Unifor team has been preparing for negotiations with the employer for quite some time and your shared solidarity will only strengthen our position to obtain fair and reasonable contract."
Unifor would also like to address misinformation shared by a Paladin manager regarding potential strike action. Late last week, we raised concerns with the company about how this damaging miscommunication was perceived by many employees.
To be clear, your right to strike under the Canada Labour Code remains intact, but this may only occur once we are in a legal strike position. At this time, we are not in that position. Before any strike action can occur, a strike vote must be held and approved by the membership. We will keep you informed as negotiations progress.
Unifor has always strived to make progress at the bargaining table. Strike action is always a last resort option, and will only be considered if negotiations break down or fail to make meaningful progress.
